Message from the President

Since our foundation in 1980 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation Power Systems has been dealing with thermal, nuclear and other types of power plants primarily in Japan, on-site transportation of spent fuel within premises of nuclear power station, and businesses related to the nuclear fuel. Through these business activities, we have gained much experience and built an excellent track record as a specialized trading company in the electric power industry sector. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt appreciation to our long-term partners for their continued business and support, without which we were not able to be here today.

Japan’s energy policy is based on a principle called “S+3E”. It means that, with the ‘‘Safety’’(“S”) as a major precondition, top priority is placed on the ‘‘Energy Security” (the first “E”) which means the stable supply of energy. The next one is the “Economic Efficiency” (the second “E”) where maximum efforts are made to achieve low-cost energy supply. Finally, we have to pursue our energy supply in harmony with the “Environment” (the third “E”). Different power sources have their respective advantages and disadvantages, and no single power source alone can fulfill all of the “S+3E” requirements. It is therefore imperative for us to make full use of the optimal combination of diverse power sources, and therefore, ‘‘the Long-term Energy Supply and Demand Outlook (energy mix)’’ put together by the Government of Japan presents the ideal mix of power sources in this regard.

The electric power industry is undergoing a time of turbulence, caused by the ongoing ‘‘Electric Power Systems Reform’’. Under such circumstances, by demonstrating our unique roles and presence as a trading company through construction and maintenance of thermal, nuclear and other types of power plants and related facilities in the domestic electric power industry as well as other energy-related sectors, we are quite determined to pursue our mission of contributing to achieving the ideal energy mix and ensuring a stable supply of electricity, which is the essential element in our country’s future development and evolution.

Jointly with our parent company, Mitsubishi Corporation, and further based upon our trustful relationship with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Mitsubishi Electric, and other electric power related manufacturers, we are committed to step up our concerted efforts by responding to the challenges in our business environment toward the goal of being acknowledged as one and the only trading company of customer’s choice in the domestic electric power industry which is striving for a sustainable growth.

Tsuyoshi Kamiiriki,President and CEO
